745 kg of tobacco seized in Rautahat

RAUTAHAT, AUGUST 25
The Armed Police Force (APF) has seized 745 kilograms of smuggled tobacco from the border area in Mathiya, Ishnath Municipality, Rautahat.
Acting on a tip-off, the APF's Nepal Armed Border Force, No. 11 Battalion, Rautahat, raided a liquor shop owned by Ram Singh Chanu in Mathiya-4, at around 11:50 pm on Sunday. During the raid the team recovered 30 sacks of tobacco hidden in a paddy field belonging to Chuman Miya, located 200 meters east of the Nepal-India Dashgaja border.
According to superintendent of Police (SP) Santosh Kumar Basnet said the proactive operation prevented illegal smuggling of tobacco, which has an estimated market value of Rs 362,750. He emphasized that the APF remains vigilant around the clock to curb illicit activities in the border areas.
Basnet also highlighted the need to shut down liquor shops operating near the border to prevent crime and encouraged local residents to support authorities in monitoring and controlling illegal cross-border activities.
The seized tobacco has been handed over to the Gaur Customs Office for further action.
