KATHMANDU, AUGUST 29
The Members of Parliament (MPs) have urged the government to adopt diplomatic measures to reclaim Nepal's territory.
Speaking at today's meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR), lawmakers pressed Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to engage directly with regional leaders regarding the agreement signed between India and China on Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani-an accord concluded without Nepal's consent.
On the occasion, CPN (Unified Socialist) lawmaker Rajendra Prasad Pandey stated that the land of Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani rightfully belongs to Nepal, citing ownership rights established after the Sugauli Treaty.
He further noted that historical maps preserved in American and British libraries corroborate Nepal's claim. Pandey emphasized that while a country may be small or large in size, there can be no compromise on sovereignty. He also urged the government to take a special initiative to forge a national consensus on reclaiming Nepali territory.
Likewise, Ranju Kumari Jha, a lawmaker from the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, expressed confidence that the Prime Minister would pursue dialogue and diplomatic efforts to assert Nepal's claims during his visit to China.
Similarly, Prem Suwal of the Nepal Workers Peasants Party stressed the need to safeguard Nepal's territory in line with the provisions of the Sugauli Treaty.
Lawmaker Maina Karki also drew the government's attention to the urgency of resolving the border dispute through diplomatic channels.
