KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 9
Protesters have set fire to Ullens School in Khumaltar, Lalitpur, early Tuesday morning amid intensifying demonstrations by the Gen Z movement against corruption.
According to Lalitpur police, fire engines were dispatched to the school, but demonstrators blocked their access, forcing firefighters to return.
The Judda Barun Equipment Office in Lalitpur also reported receiving multiple fire alerts but was unable to respond due to safety concerns.
Ullens School is chaired by Arju Rana Deuba, the current Minister of Foreign Affairs from Nepali Congress. The school remains damaged following the fire, and authorities are yet to assess the full extent of the destruction.
This comes amid nationwide protest, with curfews imposed in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and other cities, yet demonstrators continue to take to the streets, targeting government officials, party offices, and political leaders' residences.
Earlier, protesters set fire to the Nepali Congress office and the residence of Congress Chairperson and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba in Budhanilkantha and Dhangadhi. The ongoing protest follows Monday's protests in which 19 people lost their lives.
Authorities are struggling to contain the demonstrations as protesters escalate stone-throwing and arson at residences and properties belonging to the political party leaders.
