KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 11
District administrations across Nepal continue to recalibrate curfew and prohibitory orders in response to ongoing unrest and security challenges linked to the Gen Z-led demonstrations.
In Chitwan, Chief District Officer (CDO) Ganesh Aryal confirmed that the curfew imposed since Wednesday has been lifted as of Thursday morning. However, a prohibitory order has been enforced starting from 6:00 am. Under the revised measures, banks and financial institutions in Bharatpur will operate until 1:00 pm, and government offices have reopened.
In contrast, Rupandehi has extended its curfew order. According to CDO Dr. Tokraj Pandey, the curfew-first enforced on Tuesday night-was re-imposed at 9:00 am today and will remain in effect until 7:00 pm. The decision, taken by the District Security Committee, cites risks of demonstrations, mob violence, and clashes. Earlier this morning, the curfew had been briefly relaxed between 7:00 am and 9:00 am. Security forces, including the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force, have been mobilized across the district.
Meanwhile, in Morang, the DAO has extended both prohibitory and curfew orders. The curfew, effective from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am daily since September 9, will continue until further notice, CDO Indradev Yadav said. Prohibitory orders covering gatherings and movements remain in force throughout the district, though authorities noted that no fresh violent incidents have been reported in recent days. Nepali Army patrols are active across major streets and neighborhoods to safeguard public security.
Authorities in all three districts have urged residents to comply with the orders and coordinate with security personnel during the restricted hours.
