KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 14

Police on Sunday recovered six charred human remains from the fire-ravaged Bhatbhateni Supermarket in Chucchepati, Kathmandu, days after violent Gen-Z protests swept the country.

According to the police, the skeletons are unrecognizable and will require DNA testing for identification. Authorities have not yet determined whether the victims were protesters, employees, or looters.

The supermarket was set ablaze on September 10 during nationwide arson and vandalism following the Gen-Z demonstrations. Smoke was reportedly still rising from the Chucchepati branch when the bodies were found. Police suspect more victims may be discovered at other Bhatbhateni outlets targeted in the unrest.

During the protest, 21 of the Bhatbhateni outlets were vandalised and looted with 12 also being set on fire.

Meanwhile, two critically injured protesters-both shot in the head-died while on ventilator support at Bir Hospital late Friday and Saturday.

The total death toll from the protests has reached 72, including 59 protesters, 10 inmates, and 3 police personnel.
