KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 17
Inmates who fled jails across Nepal during the violent Gen Z protests of September 23–24 are steadily returning or being recaptured, officials said.
Bhimphedi Prison, Makwanpur: Of 440 inmates who broke through three gates and a wall, 223 are back-130 arrested by security forces and 36 who surrendered voluntarily. Search operations continue for 277 still at large.
Myagdi Prison: Police have returned 62 of 76 escapees; 14 remain missing. Five people accused of aiding the jailbreak are in custody.
Rasuwa Prison: Ninety-one of 97 escapees have been located, with six still on the run.
Kailali Prison: Out of 666 escapees, 226-including 27 women-have returned, while 441 remain at large.
Authorities say combined efforts of police and prison administrations are ongoing to track down those still missing, and public appeals have been issued for their voluntary return.
