KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 21
The CPN (Maoist Centre) has decided to dissolve its central committee and transform it into the General Convention Organizing Committee. A meeting of the party's office bearers, held on Sunday, resolved to forward this motion to the upcoming central committee (CC) meeting for formal endorsement.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Maoist Centre Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota stated that the proposal to restructure the existing central committee into the General Convention Organizing Committee will be presented as an agenda item at the forthcoming CC meeting. Party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' will preside over the new committee.
Sapkota further noted that the party will articulate its institutional stance through its official forum in light of the evolving political context. The standing committee has been convened for September 24, followed by the central committee meeting on September 25, to deliberate on the office bearers' proposal.
This development comes against the backdrop of the Gen-Z protests, which have intensified pressure on the established political parties. 'Preliminary discussions were held on the ideals, procedures, and modalities of leadership transition,' Sapkota remarked.
At the meeting, Chairman Prachanda briefed party leaders on the shifting political landscape and proposed advancing in a renewed direction. The gathering also appealed to patriotic, democratic, and progressive forces across the country to unite in the present political climate.
