PSDN advances national climate and conservation goals

KATHMANDU: The Partnership for Sustainable Development Nepal (PSDN), Rupandehi, has successfully planted 6,500 native tree species across four districts-Dang, Jumla, Saptari, and Siraha-with financial support from the UNCCD–G20 Global Land Initiative. This initiative aims to restore degraded forests and land as part of global efforts on climate change mitigation and carbon reduction, contributing to the collective target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Beyond reforestation, PSDN has been actively working to revive dried-up water sources through watershed management, construction of rainwater harvesting recharge ponds, and restoration of natural and artificial lakes. The organization also promotes clean energy solutions to safeguard ecosystems and ensure the well-being of people, wildlife, and nature. All these efforts are rooted in grassroots partnerships with local communities, government institutions, and international collaborators, according to Dr. Datta Bahadur Rawal , Chairman of PSDN Nepal.

Looking ahead, PSDN has set an ambitious target to plant 2.5 million trees and restore 6,000 hectares of land by 2035. This vision will be realized by working closely with farmers, indigenous groups, schools, youth clubs, community forest user groups, all three tiers of government, and international support organizations.

'PSDN strongly believes that with continued collaboration and support from communities and partners, these goals are achievable. The organization remains committed to accelerating grassroots action, creating meaningful impact, and delivering on milestones that ensure a safer and healthier future for vulnerable populations, wildlife, and the entire natural ecosystem,' Rawal said.
