KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 23

The Department of Prison Management says that 6,984 inmates have returned to custody following the violent GenZ protests last month, while approximately 7,572 escapees remain on the run.

The unprecedented breakout occurred on September 9–10 when riots damaged 28 prisons and nine juvenile centers across the country.

Officials reported that some inmates were re-arrested during police operations, while others voluntarily surrendered.

At least 10 prisoners have died in incidents linked to the unrest.

Security agencies have intensified searches nationwide, and police have appealed to families and local communities for information to help locate fugitives.
