Spanish tourist rescued from Makalu base camp

KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 2
A Spanish trekker stranded at Makalu Base Camp for nearly a week due to continuous snowfall and adverse weather has been rescued by helicopter this morning.
The stranded trekker has been identified as 70-year-old Jesus Martinez Novas from Spain. He had been traveling solo and was reportedly stranded at an altitude of 5,700 meters since October 27, according to Mingma Sherpa, Chairman of Seven Summit Treks.
The rescue mission was successfully carried out by Captain Priya Adhikari and mountain guide Jenjen Lama from Seven Summit Treks, with coordination support from Easy Heli Charter Services, Lakpa Sherpa, Chairman of Heli Everest, confirmed.
According to the District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha, Novas, was airlifted from an altitude of around 5,700 meters in Makalu Rural Municipality-2.
Police said Novas was flown toward Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-4 in Solukhumbu district following the rescue.
Authorities reported that around 70 foreign and 60 domestic tourists had been trapped at the Makalu Base Camp area due to heavy snowfall over the past few days. Rescue efforts are continuing as weather conditions gradually improve.
