KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 11

Prime Minister Sushila Karki today sought an update on the progress of efforts to reclaim misappropriated land belonging to Tribhuvan University (TU).

The Prime Minister held discussions with TU Vice Chancellor Prof. Deepak Aryal, Rector Prof. Khadga K.C., and Registrar Prof. Kedar Prasad Rijal, in the presence of Finance Minister Rameshore Prasad Khanal, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Education Minister Mahabir Pun, and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel.

Chief Secretary Eaknarayan Aryal and office bearers of the Land Inquiry Committee were also in attendance.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Karki reviewed the committee's progress and urged swift and effective action. TU officials stressed the need for government assistance in evicting individuals and organizations illegally occupying TU land and in properly documenting the misappropriated property.

Home Minister Aryal advised TU authorities to take the lead in verifying the university's land ownership records and to lodge separate complaints with the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) and other relevant bodies in cases involving forgery or fraudulent claims. He emphasized that the CIB possesses the necessary expertise and experience to handle such cases of land misappropriation.

Chief Secretary Aryal remarked that around 60 percent of the recommendations outlined in the committee's report could be implemented directly by the committee itself and cautioned against excessive dependence on the government for execution.

Education Minister Pun urged the committee to expedite its work and immediately implement feasible measures. He also proposed forming a multi-stakeholder taskforce representing all concerned agencies to coordinate and streamline the process.

Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Karki instructed that the unlawful occupation, encroachment, or sale of Tribhuvan University land by any individual or organization must be stopped immediately. She further directed that those found guilty of such acts be brought to justice without delay.
