Thai skydiver sets dual Everest records as 18th Everest Skydive concludes

Tanaboworn Sirikunakornkun flies biggest flag and jumps from highest altitude; event sees multiple firsts in high-altitude skydiving

KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 14

The 18th edition of the Everest Skydive has concluded in the Everest region with a series of record-breaking feats, led by Thai national Dr. Tanaboworn Sirikunakornkun, who achieved two major milestones: a jump from the highest altitude on record for a Thai citizen, and the release of a 150-square-metre Thai national flag, the largest ever flown during a skydive in the Himalaya.

According to Anuj Pandey, General Manager at Everest Skydive, the jump performed at the Ama Dablam and Syangboche drop zones attracted global attention. 'Known as 'Super Toom,' he had undergone a rigorous training and practice routine and was able to put his name in the record books as the first Thai national making a jump from the highest altitude and flying the biggest flag,' Pandey said.

The 18th edition, held from November 10 to 13, featured seasoned solo skydivers from Thailand, Italy, Romania, France, Belarus, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and the USA. Among the highlights was the first board-jump in the Everest region by Olga Naumova, who organizers confirmed as the first female skydiver to perform such a jump in the Himalaya.

'The annual event is backed up by the core crew team of Paul Henry de Baere, Nadezhda Solovyeva and Omar Alhegelan who have been doing this since 2008, accompanied by an emergency medical team. The core team also includes Jean Phi, Laurent Bilet, Alberto Avalis, Tyler Steele and Dylan Pruett. All the flights were executed by the exclusive partner- Fishtail Air. Due to good weather and conditions, the event advanced smoothly from the 10- 13 November,' Pandey said.

Apart from the core crew and team, the skydivers for this year's event also included the skydivers - Alberto Avalis from Italy, Robert Steele, Reid Garton, Joeseph Stein and Dylan Pruett from the USA, Ileana Oprea and Cornelia Mihai from Romania and Xavier Laurent, Francois Raison, Tangui Ducamp from France, according to the organizers.

With the successful completion of this year's program, preparations have already begun for the 19th edition in 2026, organizers confirmed.
