KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 25
Senior Vice-Chair of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML), Ishwar Pokharel, has announced his candidacy for the post of party chairperson in the upcoming 11th National General Convention.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Pokharel declared his bid for the party's top position, citing his long-standing contributions to party-building. 'I have announced my candidacy for the party presidency to advance party reorganization and transformation, following the calls and suggestions of colleagues from across the country,' he noted.
He expressed his commitment to developing the UML into a decisive national political force through collective leadership, pledging to delegate responsibilities to leaders and cadres based on their qualifications, capacities, and interests.
The CPN (UML) is scheduled to hold its general convention in Kathmandu from December 13 to 15. Delegates-selected from both within the country and abroad-are to be chosen on November 29.
Pokharel urged all party members to participate actively and freely in the delegate selection process without fear or hesitation. He emphasized that safeguarding the party while prioritizing the welfare of the nation and its people is a shared responsibility, arguing that only a party enriched with internal democracy can build and lead a democratic society.
The senior vice-chair also stated that he would soon unveil an extended document outlining his political and organizational perspectives, which he plans to present at the general convention.
