High Court orders release of Rabi Lamichhane on bail

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 18 The Butwal Bench of the High Court, Tulsipur, has ordered the release of Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairperson Rabi Lamichhane on bail. The order, issued on Thursday, directs the release of former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Lamichhane, who has been in judicial custody in connection with an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds at the Butwal-based Supreme Cooperative. A division bench comprising Judges Basudev Acharya and Tej Narayan Poudel issued the order, instructing that Lamichhane be released upon the deposit of bail equivalent to the alleged loss of Rs 27.48 million, according to the court's Information Officer, Ram Bahadur Kunwar. Earlier, Lamichhane had filed an application expressing his willingness to deposit bail equivalent to his alleged liability.
