KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 18 Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Rajendra Singh Bhandari has stated that the government is preparing to establish a special mechanism, comprising a team from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police, to hold accountable those responsible for wrongdoing in the foreign employment sector. Speaking at a programme organized on the occasion of International Migration Day on Thursday, Minister Bhandari said the mechanism would include members from anti-trafficking, crime control, and other relevant divisions. 'We will hold accountable anyone involved in fraudulent activities in the name of foreign employment. This is a foundation for initiating good governance,' the minister added. On the occasion, Minister Bhandari also emphasized that the government is working to create a favorable environment for productive work within the country, noting that the skills gained during foreign employment should be respected and effectively utilized. During the event, the Nepal Labour Migration Report 2024, a joint publication of the Ministry and the International Labour Organization (ILO), was released. Likewise, ILO Country Director Numan Özcan highlighted the need for collaboration to ensure the safety and security of migrant workers. He said the ILO remains committed to partnering with the government on policy reforms, labour rights, and migration management. Ministry Spokesperson Dr Krishna Hari Puskar added that while migration cannot be prevented, implementing a strategy for its proper management is both necessary and appropriate.
