Two arrested with 4.28 kg of marijuana at TIA

Indian nationals held while smuggling suspected drugs from Bangkok to Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 21 Police have arrested two Indian nationals with 4.284 kilograms of a substance suspected to be marijuana from the arrival tunnel gate area of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Sunday afternoon. According to police, 33-year-old Ranjit Singh was taken into custody after the suspected contraband was recovered from his luggage during inspection. Singh had arrived in Kathmandu from Bangkok on a Thai Airways flight. The seizure was made by a joint team from the Tribhuvan International Airport Security Office and the Customs Office. Meanwhile, another Indian national, Punit Sharma, who allegedly came to receive the illegal drug consignment, was arrested from the international arrival parking area of TIA, police said. Both arrestees have been handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau for further investigation and necessary legal action.
