Police arrest 1,696 fugitives in Mangsir, recover Rs 123.7 million in fines
Decision enforcement drives records 641 years of cumulative imprisonment nationwide

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 22 Nepal Police arrested 1,696 fugitive convicts across the country during Mangsir of the current fiscal year 2082/83 as part of its ongoing drive to enforce court verdicts, according to police statistics. During the period, police also recovered Rs 12.37 crore in fines, while the total prison sentence enforced amounted to 641 years, six months and 24 days, police said. According to the provincial breakdown, Madhesh Province recorded the highest number of arrests with 491 fugitives, followed closely by Sudurpaschim Province with 486 arrests. Madhesh Province collected Rs 87.25 lakh in fines, while Sudurpaschim recovered Rs 1.61 crore. In Koshi Province, police arrested 210 individuals, recovering Rs 2.71 crore in fines. Bagmati Province saw the arrest of 104 fugitives, with fines amounting to Rs 3.15 crore. Similarly, Lumbini Province recorded 238 arrests and collected Rs 1.03 crore, while Gandaki Province arrested 69 individuals, recovering Rs 1.03 crore in fines. In Karnali Province, police arrested 25 fugitives, collecting Rs 1.68 lakh. Meanwhile, within the Kathmandu Valley, 73 fugitives were arrested, with fines totalling Rs 1.93 crore.
