KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 29 Representatives of political parties were seen queuing at the Election Commission (EC) on Monday to submit their closed lists under the Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system for the House of Representatives (HoR) elections, 2082 BS. Political parties that had been busy finalising their PR candidate lists throughout the day reached the EC before the 4:00 pm deadline. Nepali Congress (NC) central member and Chief of the party's Publicity Department, Min Bishwokarma, who arrived at the Commission to submit the closed list, said that preparations had reached the final stage in line with the candidate selection criteria earlier made public by the party. The NC said that two to three youth candidates from each province have been included in its closed list. Nepali Communist Party leader Rajendra Pandey said that preparations had been made to submit a list of 110 candidates based on the principle of inclusion. The submission of closed lists under the PR electoral system began on Sunday, in accordance with the schedule announced by the EC. On Sunday, only some fringe parties submitted their closed lists to the Commission. Major parties, including the Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), Nepali Communist Party, Rastriya Swatantra Party, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party, were scheduled to submit their lists on Monday. As of 5:00 pm on Monday, a dozen political parties had submitted their closed lists, the EC said. EC Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said that the closed lists submitted on December 29 and 30 would be scrutinised from December 30 to January 4. The Commission will publish the final list on February 2, 2026, after completing the remaining procedural requirements, he added. A total of 100 political parties have registered to contest the election under the PR system, using 93 electoral symbols.
