RAUTAHAT, DECEMBER 30 The East–West Highway in Rautahat remained obstructed on Tuesday after a bullet truck carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) overturned in a forest area of Chandrapur Municipality. The accident occurred at around 7:30 am in the Lamaha forest area, Chandrapur–4, when an LPG bullet truck with Indian registration number UP 17 AT 2114 suddenly overturned, blocking the highway and halting vehicular movement. According to the Area Police Office, Chandranigahapur, the truck was transporting LPG from Raxaul, India, to Mahendranagar in Dhanusha district. The driver, 35-year-old Pawan Yadav of Kadora, Jaynagar police station area in India, sustained injuries in the incident and is currently undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital, Chandranigahapur. DSP Rupa Labung said traffic along the highway has been suspended as a safety precaution due to continuous gas leakage from the overturned bullet truck, which poses a significant risk. Technical teams are carrying out inspections at the site, and recovery operations will begin only after the gas leak is fully controlled. Although cranes have already reached the location, authorities said stopping the gas leakage remains the top priority. Vehicles stranded since morning have been diverted through alternative routes, with some motorists using the Hulaki (Postal) Highway. Police said it is difficult to estimate when the East–West Highway will reopen and have urged drivers to use alternative routes until further notice.
