Nepali Congress Special General Convention to Hold Elections as per Party Statute

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 13 The Special General Convention of the Nepali Congress (NC), which commenced at Bhrikutimandap on Sunday, has decided to conduct elections in accordance with the party's existing statute. The Election Committee formed by the convention shared this information at a press briefing today. According to the party's statute, elections will be held for one president, two vice-presidents, two general secretaries, eight joint general secretaries, and 121 central committee members, said Election Committee Coordinator and senior advocate Sitaram KC. As per the work procedure drafted and endorsed by the Special General Convention, KC is heading a five-member election committee. The event is being attended by factions within the NC that support the Special General Convention organized by the Party Publicity Committee. At the 14th General Convention, the total number of registered voters was 4,743. After excluding those who have passed away and those who have joined other political parties, the number has now been reduced to 4,635. According to the election schedule, the provisional voter list was published at 12:30 pm, with claims, objections, and verification scheduled until 1:30 pm. The final voter list was then released at 2:00 pm, followed by candidate nomination registration from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, with the list of candidates slated for publication at 4:30 pm. The notice further states that objections to candidacy will be entertained from 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm, with investigations into objections scheduled from 5:00 pm to 5:30 pm. The period for withdrawal of candidacy will run from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, with the final publication of the candidate list set for 8:45 pm.
