HoR polls: 56 women candidates in Lumbini Province, none in Rolpa

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 21 A total of 56 women have filed their nominations in Lumbini Province for the upcoming election to the House of Representatives scheduled for February 21. According to the Provincial Election Office in Dang, Rupandehi district has the highest number of women candidates, with 21 nominations. Rolpa, however, has no women candidates at all. Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Gulmi and Nawalparasi West each have five women candidates. Kapilvastu has four, while Palpa and Rukum East have two candidates each. Arghakhanchi and Pyuthan have one woman candidate each. Although major political parties have fielded relatively few women candidates in the province, women have shown participation through smaller parties and independent candidacies. In total, 599 candidates have registered nominations across the 12 districts of Lumbini Province. Of them, 394 are affiliated with political parties and 205 are independent candidates, the Provincial Election Office said. (With inputs from RSS)
