Gold price jumps Rs 9,200 per tola, sets new record above Rs 301,000

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 23 Gold price surged sharply in the domestic market on Friday, setting a new historic record and crossing the Rs 301,000-per-tola mark for the first time in Nepal. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association, fine gold rose by Rs 9,200 per tola to reach Rs 301,400 per tola today. The yellow metal had been traded at Rs 292,200 per tola on Thursday. Gold had earlier touched a then-record high of Rs 295,100 per tola on Wednesday before declining on Thursday. Friday's rebound has pushed prices to a fresh all-time high in the Nepali market. Silver price also climbed to a new record on Friday, crossing the psychological threshold of Rs 6,000 per tola. Silver increased by Rs 320 per tola to be traded at Rs 6,190 per tola, up from Rs 5,870 per tola on Thursday. Precious metals have remained volatile in recent days, with domestic prices closely tracking movements in the international market.
