Scuffle, arson reported at Sanothimi Child Correction Centre

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 23 A scuffle between two groups escalated into vandalism and arson at the Child Correction Centre in Sanothimi, Madhyapur Thimi Municipality–2, on Thursday night. According to police, stones were pelted at responding security personnel after the clash intensified. A team led by Thimi Police Circuit Chief Nawaraj Dhungana was deployed, while 50 Armed Police Force personnel were mobilised to restore order. Fire engines from Bhaktapur and Kathmandu extinguished the blaze around midnight. The extent of damage caused by the arson has yet to be assessed. The correction centre houses 169 inmates, including 145 males and 24 females. Although the situation is now under control, security has been heightened in and around the facility.
