KATHMANDU, JANUARY 25 The Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Leave No Trace Korea to strengthen environmental education and promote sustainable practices among climbers, Icefall Doctors and SPCC staff in the Everest region. Under the partnership, SPCC recently organised a one-day Leave No Trace (LNT) training programme in Lukla, aimed at enhancing environmental awareness and responsible behaviour in high-altitude mountaineering areas. According to SPCC, the training was attended by 22 participants, including 16 men and six women, comprising SPCC staff and Icefall Doctors working in the Khumbu region. The committee said the programme focused on practical LNT principles relevant to Everest expeditions and waste management challenges in the high Himalaya. SPCC also acknowledged the contribution of trainer Kim Young Sik, crediting him for delivering an effective and impactful session. SPCC said the collaboration with Leave No Trace Korea is part of its broader effort to encourage cleaner and more sustainable mountaineering practices in the Everest region.
