Former UN Resident Coordinator to Nepal Hanaa Singer-Hamdy appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Mali

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 27 Former United Nations Resident Coordinator to Nepal, Hanaa Singer-Hamdy of Egypt, has been appointed as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Mali by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, effective January 24, with the approval of the host government. She will also serve as the Humanitarian Coordinator. Singer-Hamdy served as the UN Resident Coordinator in Nepal from 2022, leading the UN country team in strengthening development cooperation and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals in partnership with the Government of Nepal and national stakeholders. Prior to her Nepal posting, she held the same role in Sri Lanka from 2018 to 2022. With over three decades of senior leadership experience, Singer-Hamdy has worked across development, humanitarian response, peacebuilding and post-conflict contexts. She has held several senior positions within the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), including Country Representative roles in Nepal, Syria, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, and Associate Regional Director in Geneva.
