KATHMANDU, JANUARY 29 The price of fine gold surged by a record Rs 20,500 per tola in a single day on Thursday, reaching an all-time high of Rs 339,300 per tola in the domestic market, just a day after posting another sharp gain. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association, fine gold was priced at Rs 318,800 per tola on Wednesday-itself a historic high after surging Rs 9,500 that day. The back-to-back increases represent a combined jump of Rs 30,000 per tola over two days, marking one of the most dramatic price movements in Nepal's gold market in recent memory. Silver price also climbed, rising Rs 205 per tola to trade at Rs 7,505 on Thursday, up from Rs 7,300 the previous day, the federation said. The sharp increase in Nepal's gold market reflects volatile surges in precious metal prices on the international market, with no immediate signs of stabilization. The unprecedented price movement has left Nepali consumers facing difficult decisions about whether to delay purchases in hopes of a correction or secure gold at current rates before prices potentially climb further beyond the reach of most buyers. The consecutive daily surges underscore the growing impact of global commodity market fluctuations on domestic consumers, with the precious metal now trading at levels previously unimaginable in the local market.
