KATHMANDU, JANUARY 29 Heavy snowfall in Humla has disrupted transport and daily life but brought relief to local farmers. Continuous snow over the past two days has blocked roads from Simkot to northern Namkha village and suspended flights on the Nepalgunj–Simkot and Surkhet–Simkot routes. Chief District Officer Tek Kumar Regmi said the snowfall on January 28 intensified the cold, prompting authorities to set up bonfires at government offices for public warmth. Security personnel and government staff are working to clear snow around Simkot Airport, while rainfall in southern areas has further hindered movement. Despite the weather, political parties continue election campaigns ahead of the March 5 House of Representatives election. Farmers welcomed the snow, saying it benefits winter crops such as barley, wheat, and oats by retaining soil moisture and improving fertility. (With inputs from RSS)
