PM Karki assures free and fair election in first address to National Assembly

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 2 Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Sunday assured that the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election will be held in a free, fair, and peaceful manner on the scheduled date of March 5. Addressing the National Assembly (NA) for the first time since assuming office, Prime Minister Karki said the election government is fully committed to ensuring an impartial electoral environment. She was speaking at the fifth meeting of the 19th session of the National Assembly, which began on January 18. During her address, the Prime Minister briefed NA members on election preparations and highlighted the government's efforts to strengthen good governance, describing it as one of her administration's core priorities. PM Karki said she took office amid multiple challenges and emphasized that her leadership is not driven by personal ambition. She reiterated her commitment to handing over power to a new government to be formed following the HoR election. The Prime Minister also congratulated the winners of the recently concluded National Assembly elections. Responding to lawmakers' queries, she addressed issues raised during deliberations on the National Good Conduct Policy Study Report, 2082 BS, presented by Kamala Devi Panta, President of the Committee on Development, Economic Affairs, and Good Governance.
