Lila Pieters Yahia takes office as UN Resident Coordinator in Nepal

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 3 Lila Pieters Yahia of Canada has been appointed as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Nepal and has officially assumed her duties from February 1, with the approval of the Government of Nepal. With over 25 years of experience in public service, Pieters Yahia brings extensive leadership expertise to Nepal. She most recently served as the UN Resident Coordinator in Mauritania and previously worked as Resident Coordinator ad interim in Armenia, Equatorial Guinea, and Tunisia, leading UN country teams to support nationally defined development priorities and advance progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Prior to joining the UN Secretariat in 2020, Pieters Yahia held senior roles with UNICEF, including Country Representative in Tunisia, Deputy Director of the Brussels Office, and Deputy Country Representative in Türkiye. Her earlier assignments span Bangladesh, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, where she focused on strengthening national systems and improving outcomes for children and families. She holds a Master's degree in Economics from the London School of Economics, United Kingdom. Pieters Yahia succeeds to the role at a time when the United Nations in Nepal continues to work closely with national partners to support inclusive development, resilience, and sustainable growth.
