NEPSE climbs over 27 points, turnover crosses Rs 11.5 billion

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 5 The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE), the country's sole secondary market, rose by 27.19 points, or 1.01 per cent, on Thursday to close at 2,708.70 points. The Sensitive Index, which tracks Class 'A' stocks, advanced by 0.98 per cent, while the Float Index, measuring actively traded shares, gained 1.11 per cent. Sector-wise, all sub-indices ended in positive territory except the Trading sector, which slipped by 0.48 per cent. The Non-Life Insurance and Others sectors led the gains with a rise of 1.98 per cent each, followed by Hydropower at 1.66 per cent, Investment at 1.23 per cent and Life Insurance at 1.11 per cent. No other sector recorded gains above one per cent. The market witnessed a daily turnover of Rs 11.58 billion through the trading of 35,574,627 shares of 326 companies across 108,817 transactions. In individual stock movement, 201 scrips advanced, 55 declined and four remained unchanged. Kalinchowk Darshan Limited (KDL), Super Mai Hydropower Limited (SMH) and Modi Energy Limited (MEL) hit the upper circuit, gaining 10 per cent each. At the close of trading, total market capitalisation stood at Rs 4.547 trillion.
