Home Minister directs enhanced security for upcoming election

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 6 Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has instructed security agencies to ensure smart, effective and robust security arrangements for the upcoming election. Chairing a meeting of the Central Security Committee on Friday, the Home Minister directed all security bodies to remain on high alert and take comprehensive measures to safeguard the electoral process. The meeting reviewed the implementation status of earlier decisions and discussed strategies to address potential security challenges as the election draws closer. According to Home Ministry Spokesperson Anand Kafle, the meeting-attended by secretaries from the ministries of home and defence, along with chiefs and representatives of all four security agencies-assessed security preparedness, including workforce mobilisation and logistics, under the Integrated Election Security Plan-2082 BS, which is currently in force. The committee decided to further strengthen the Nepal Police's advance unit responsible for curbing the misuse of social media, take action against activities undermining the election, and impose a ban on drone use during the election period. The meeting also agreed to ensure insurance coverage for election security personnel, including temporary police, identify polling centres lacking communication facilities and make necessary arrangements, and closely monitor the spread of fake, misleading or hate content in violation of the election code of conduct.
