UN Resident Coordinator presents credentials to PM Karki

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 10 United Nations Resident Coordinator in Nepal Lila Pieters Yahia formally presented her credentials to Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Monday, marking the start of her official mandate in the country. Pieters Yahia, a Canadian national, was appointed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres with the approval of the Government of Nepal. During the meeting, she commended Nepal's leadership in global peacekeeping, noting its role as the largest troop-contributing country to UN missions. She reaffirmed the UN's commitment to supporting Nepal's priorities, including progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, implementation of the 16th national plan, youth employment, inclusive growth, digital transformation, and climate resilience. Prime Minister Karki and the UN official also discussed peaceful and credible elections, national development priorities, and strengthening partnerships to ensure no one is left behind. Pieters Yahia brings over 25 years of experience in development and humanitarian leadership and most recently served as UN Resident Coordinator in Mauritania.
