KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 10 At least 10 people were killed when a passenger bus plunged into the Tamakoshi River in Ramechhap district on Tuesday, with some reports putting the death toll as high as 12. The Okhaldhunga-bound bus, operated by Araniko Transport Committee, veered off the road at Masanetar in Manthali Municipality-6 and fell approximately 50 metres into the river on Tuesday morning. According to the earlier police report, the number of death was 10. However, recent reports by the District Administration Office says that the death toll had reached 12 after rescuers recovered six more bodies from the accident site during search operations. Six others had earlier died during treatment at hospitals. Eight people were injured in the accident, including the bus driver. Seven of the injured have been referred to Dhulikhel Hospital for treatment, while one was found unconscious and is being transported to a medical facility, according to Deputy Inspector General Abinarayan Kafle, central spokesperson for Nepal Police. The bus (Province 03-01-005 Kha 9975) had departed from Kathmandu's Jadibuti area for Pokali in Okhaldhunga via Dhobi in Ramechhap. The submerged vehicle has made rescue operations challenging, Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhola Bhatta said. Teams from Ramechhap District Police Office, Armed Police Force Battalion Ramechhap, and the Disaster Management Division in Khurkot were deployed to the scene. A diving team from the Armed Police Force continues search operations in the river. The cause of the accident has yet to be determined.
