KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 10 Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Thapa has announced that his party will unite all sections of society to steer the country toward progress. Reiterating the party's responsibility, Thapa said the NC is committed to embracing diverse perspectives and sectors in the journey toward national development, asserting that the party's role is vital in navigating the country through the present challenges. Addressing a cadres' gathering in Lahan on Tuesday, he emphasized that a responsible political force like the NC is essential at this critical juncture. 'The NC has come forward with a new vision and renewed commitment. The party neither provokes conflict nor fosters hatred, as this is a time for unity,' he stressed. The NC president called on the public to vote for the party's candidates to help accomplish this mission. He also recalled the contributions of late BP Koirala and GP Koirala in establishing peace in the country, noting that peaceful politics remains a defining characteristic of the NC. Expressing concern over growing public dissatisfaction, he said, 'Disenchantment among citizens is widespread. People view corruption as the root cause of many problems. If leaders remain honest and accountable, corruption can be eradicated.' He added that it is time for political leaders and parties to reflect on citizens' grievances and restore public trust in the system. Thapa also urged party cadres to remain vigilant against elements that exploit public frustration for political gain. Earlier, he garlanded the statue of Ramesh Mahato, the first martyr of the Madhes movement. Similarly, at a programme in Dharan, President Thapa underscored the urgency of promoting good governance and strengthening efforts to control corruption. (With input from Rastriya Samchar Samiti)
