Bhojpur Issues Citizenship ID Card in Mother’s Name for the First Time

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 17 The District Administration Office (DAO), Bhojpur, on Tuesday issued a citizenship identity card in the name of a mother for the first time in the district's history. In a landmark move, the DAO granted the citizenship card to Aditya Darnal of Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality-3 in the name of his mother, Rajan Poudel, Chief District Officer (CDO) of Bhojpur, confirmed. CDO Poudel explained that Darnal had previously been unable to obtain a citizenship identity card due to the absence of his father's identification. 'Since Darnal could not secure a citizenship card because his father's identity was unestablished, the authorities issued the card today in the name of his mother, Basanti Damai, after completing the required legal procedures,' Poudel said. According to official records, Aditya has been issued citizenship identity card number 09-01-82-03810. The DAO, Bhojpur, further clarified that individuals meeting the legal requirements can now apply to receive citizenship in their mother's name. To obtain a citizenship identity card in the mother's name, applicants must submit their birth registration certificate, academic certificates, and the mother's citizenship identity card, along with a completed prescribed application form. Additionally, applicants must provide a verification document from the concerned local authority confirming that the father's identity has not been established. Furthermore, the applicant's mother must submit a written self-declaration stating that her husband's identity is unknown. (With inputs from Rastriya Samchar Samiti)
