Gold surges Rs 5,600 per tola in single day
Silver also jumps Rs 375; fine gold now at Rs 310,300 after brief dip

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 22 Gold price surged sharply in the domestic market on Sunday, rising by Rs 5,600 per tola in a single day to reach Rs 310,300 per tola, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association. The jump marks a significant rebound after a brief period of decline that set in at the start of the Nepali month of Falgun. Fine gold had opened the month at Rs 303,500 per tola before sliding to Rs 300,400 per tola on Falgun 6 - its lowest point this month. Prices have since recovered steadily, gaining momentum to reach Sunday's figure of Rs 310,300 per tola. On Friday, fine gold was being traded at Rs 304,700 per tola, unchanged from Thursday's rate. Silver also recorded a sharp single-day gain, rising by Rs 375 per tola. The precious metal, which was trading at Rs 5,050 per tola on Friday, climbed to Rs 5,425 per tola on Sunday, the federation said.
