KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 22 The District Administration Office Dhanusha has removed around 20,000 election publicity materials installed in violation of the code of conduct as campaigning intensifies for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5. The administration cleared leaflets, pamphlets, banners and posters put up indiscriminately by various candidates within Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City. The materials had been pasted on public places, electricity poles, government buildings and roadsides, contravening election regulations. Chief District Officer Prem Prasad Luitel said the office had given political parties and candidates a one-day deadline on Thursday to remove materials breaching the code. After they failed to comply within the stipulated time, the administration carried out the removal drive. Luitel warned that legal action would be initiated if similar violations are repeated. The administration has urged all parties and candidates to strictly adhere to the election code of conduct during the campaign period. (With inputs from RSS)
