RAUTAHAT, FEBRUARY 23 A peace and goodwill rally was organised in Sabgadha of Gaur Municipality-6 of Rautahat on Monday, following days of communal tension that gripped the area since Thursday night. The unrest had erupted after a dispute over a wedding procession playing music while passing near a mosque, leaving the Gaur area tense for several days. The rally, led by local civil society, saw the participation of Hindu and Muslim community leaders, representatives of the local administration, political parties and a large number of residents. Participants conveyed a message of communal harmony, mutual respect and brotherhood. The procession began from the main road of Sabgadha and circled affected neighbourhoods, promoting peace, unity and coexistence. Following the escalation of tensions between the two communities, the administration had imposed a curfew from 1:00 pm on Saturday to maintain law and order. However, as the situation gradually normalised, the District Administration Office Rautahat lifted the curfew from 6:00 am on Monday. Local leaders urged residents not to be provoked and to help preserve social harmony. The rally, organised after several days of unrest, is expected to help rebuild trust and restore a sense of brotherhood in Gaur. The rally was led by Jagannath Prasad Kesari, president of the local civil society. Among those present were Chief District Officer Dinesh Sagar Bhusal, Colonel Bishwas Bista of Narayan Dal Battalion of Nepali Army, Superintendent of Police Sitaram Rijal, Armed Police Force SP Ramhari Adhikari, National Investigation Department Deputy Director Kumar Budhathoki, political leaders, community representatives, journalists, security personnel and local residents.
