KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 27 The Embassy of Japan and the Japan Foundation are set to host a travelling exhibition titled 'Tokyo Before/After' in Kathmandu from February 28 to March 18. The exhibition will be held at the Nepal Art Council Gallery in Babar Mahal and will remain open to the public free of charge from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm daily, except on March 2 and March 5. The official opening ceremony is scheduled for 3:00 pm on February 27. Featuring around 80 photographs, the exhibition juxtaposes historical images of Tokyo from the 1930s and 1940s with contemporary photographs taken after 2010. Through a 'before-and-after' approach, the exhibition highlights the Japanese capital's social, economic and architectural transformation over time. Organisers said the exhibition aims to promote Japanese culture and art while offering visitors insight into Tokyo's evolution as a global megacity. The display also explores broader themes of urban modernisation and transformation. The Embassy of Japan expressed hope that the exhibition will encourage a deeper understanding of Tokyo and appeal to both photography enthusiasts and the general public.
