Sudurpaschim records 51% voter turnout in HoR polls

KATHMANDU, MARCH 5 Sudurpaschim Province recorded a 51.37 percent voter turnout in the House of Representatives election held on Thursday. The Province Election Office reported that turnout was 55.35 percent in Kailali, 58.96 percent in Kanchanpur, 40.87 percent in Doti, 39.18 percent in Achham, 51.61 percent in Bajura, 49.15 percent in Dadeldhura, 46.44 percent in Bajhang, 46.77 percent in Baitadi, and 53.75 percent in Darchula. The Election Commission had registered over 1.7 million voters (1,716,660) in Sudurpaschim Province, of whom 881,953 cast their ballots. The Province Election Office further stated that, after the collection of ballot boxes, an all-party meeting would be convened and vote counting would begin. Collection of the ballot boxes is currently underway. Police officials noted that transporting ballot boxes from the mountainous districts of Darchula, Bajhang, and Bajura to the respective counting stations would take time. Padam Bahadur Bogati, spokesperson at the Sudurpaschim Province Police Office, said that efforts are ongoing to ferry ballot boxes from 10 voting centres by helicopter.
