Ranju Darshana, who has long been at the forefront of mainstream politics and ran for mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City at the age of 21, has been elected to the House of Representatives after nine years. Ranju Darshana is a well-known political figure who advocates for alternative politics. In 2013, at the age of 17, she joined the Bibeksheel Nepali Party and began her political career. At the time, Nepal Bandha (Nepal Blocked) was announced by both underground and mainstream political parties. Ranju became involved in street protests, claiming that bandh strikes were causing hardship for citizens. Her activism also sparked the 'Strike Boycott Campaign'. Aside from this, she became involved in social services. Following a major earthquake in 2015, she became involved in relief and rehabilitation efforts. Ranju was seen supporting Dr Govinda KC's hunger strike against corruption. Her influence in the party was also growing. At 22 years old, she ran for mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City in the 2017 local elections. Ranju's candidature, which ran under the slogan 'Let's make Kathmandu the most beautiful city in the world,' drew a lot of attention. She finished third in that election with 23,439 votes. Bidya Sundar Shakya of the CPN-UML was elected mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City at that time. Ranju became well-known across the country after that election. Bibeksheel experienced internal conflict in 2021. Ranju left the party and maintained her independence for a while. She ran for the House of Representatives in 2022 from Kathmandu-5 using the 'Sell Roti' election symbol. However, she was unable to win the election. She had 600 votes overall at the time. She became a key member of the Rastriya Swatantra Party after joining in 2025.
