RSP president Lamichhane wins Chitwan-2 with wide margin for third time

KATHMANDU, MARCH 7 Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has won the House of Representatives election in Chitwan Constituency-2 for the third time by a large margin. He received 54,402 votes, according to Saturday's results. This constituency counted 87,028 votes. Lamichhane's closest rival, Nepali Congress candidate Mina Kharel, received 14,564 votes. The vote difference between Lamichhane and Kharel is 39,838. Lamichhane won this constituency by a margin of 34,281 votes in the 2022 House of Representatives election. His closest rival at the time was Nepali Congress member Umesh Shrestha. However, he lost his MP seat over the issue of not reapplying for Nepali citizenship after obtaining American citizenship. Lamichhane then received more votes in the by-election held on April 23, 2023, than the previous time. Lamichhane received 54,176 votes, while Jit Narayan Shrestha, the Nepali Congress candidate who came in second, received only 11,214 votes. The gap between them was 42,962 votes. In the by-election, CPN-UML candidate Ram Prasad Neupane received 10,936 votes. Lamichhane received 49,300 votes in the previous election on November 20, 2022. According to the results reported today (Saturday), CPN-UML candidate Asmin Ghimire received 6,992 votes in Chitwan-2, while Pratap Gurung received 4,969 votes.
