RSP sweeps all four constituencies of Sarlahi district

KATHMANDU, MARCH 8 The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has won all four constituencies in the Sarlahi district, defeating traditional political parties' heavyweight candidates by a large margin. RSP candidate Amresh Singh defeated Nepali Congress president Gagan Thapa by more than 12,000 votes, while Narendra Sah defeated Nepali Communist Party leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha, who is also a former home minister in Sarlahi 3. Rabin Mahato has also defeated top leaders such as Rastriya Mukti Party (RMP) president Rajendra Mahato and Nepali Communist Party heavyweight contender and former minister Mahindra Ray Yadav at Sarlahi-2. Nitima Bhandari Karki of the RSP also won Sarlahi-1, defeating top Nepali Congress and CPN-UML leaders. SARLAHI-1 RSP candidate Nitima Bhandari Karki has won Sarlahi Constituency-1. She defeated Shambhulal Shrestha, the Nepali Congress candidate, by nearly 36,000 votes. Bhandari was elected to the House of Representatives with 44,181 votes, while her nearest rival, Shrestha, received 7,871. According to the Election Commission, Manoj Kumar Devkota of the CPN-UML received 6,101 votes in Sarlahi-1. Similarly, 5,494 votes were cast in support of CPN-UML candidate Pramod Sah, who finished fourth. In the 2022 House of Representatives election, Ram Prakash Chaudhary of LSP-N won Sarlahi-1 with 24,838 votes. However, Chaudhary, who ran as a candidate this time, could only obtain 3,991 votes. SARLAHI-2 Rabin Mahato of the RSP has been elected in Sarlahi Constituency 2. Mahato won the election with 42,512 votes in the recently concluded vote counting. Mahato's closest rival, Nepali Communist Party candidate Mahindra Ray Yadav, received 8,523 votes. According to the Election Commission's results, Dr Saroj Kumar of the Nepali Congress received 7,039 votes, while Rajendra Mahato of the Rastriya Mukti Party received 5,992. SARLAHI-3 Narendra Sah Kalwar, of the RSP, has been elected from Sarlahi-3 in the House of Representatives election. According to the Election Commission, RSP candidate Sah has been elected with 46,890 votes. His rival, Narayan Kaji Shrestha of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), received 13,338 votes. Binod Kumar Khanal of the Nepali Congress received 6,624 votes, followed by Hari Prasad Upreti of the CPN-UML with 5,776 votes and Tribhuvan Kumar Singh of the Ujjaya Nepal Party with 2,622. SARLAHI-4 Amresh Kumar Singh of the TSP has been elected to the House of Representatives in Sarlahi-4, defeating the president of the Nepali Congress by more than 12,000 votes. Singh received 35,688 votes in the recently completed vote counting, while his closest competitor, Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa, received 22,831 votes. Amresh Singh now has a hat-trick after this victory, while Gagan Thapa suffers his first defeat. Thapa, who became a proportional representation MP in the 2008 election, had won a hat-trick in Kathmandu 4. This time, Thapa, who ran for office in Sarlahi constituency-4 of Madhes province, lost.
