KATHMANDU, MARCH 8 More than 6,000 votes were declared invalid in the two constituencies of Tanahu district in the March 5 election to the House of Representatives (HoR). A total of 6,252 votes were invalidated in both constituencies. The District Election Office, Tanahu, said that although a voter education programme was conducted in all wards across the district by mobilizing volunteers, the number of invalid votes could not be reduced. According to Bikash Lamsal, the district's Election Officer, 2,730 votes were found invalid in Tanahu Constituency No. 1 and 3,522 in Constituency No. 2. Constituency No. 1 has a total of 126,882 voters, of whom 68,149 cast their votes. Of these, 65,419 votes were declared valid. Likewise, out of 66,100 votes cast in Constituency No. 2, a total of 62,579 were valid. Election Officer Lamsal said that votes were invalidated due to various reasons, including multiple markings on the ballot paper, stamping in the wrong place, and submission of blank ballot papers.
