NEPSE hits circuit breaker within minutes of opening after election

KATHMANDU, MARCH 9 Trading at the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has been halted on Monday after the market triggered a circuit breaker within a minute of opening. The benchmark NEPSE Index surged by 108 points, or 4 percent, reaching 2,821.10 points, prompting an automatic suspension of trading for 20 minutes, according to market rules. Under NEPSE regulations, trading is halted if the index rises or falls by 4 percent within the first hour of trading. The circuit breaker was triggered amid strong investor response after the recent House of Representatives election, with share prices rising sharply across the market. Trading was temporarily suspended following the surge.
