One killed, 11 injured after Scorpio hits pedestrians in Sarlahi

SARLAHI, MARCH 15 One person was killed and 11 others were injured, including members of a wedding procession, after a Scorpio vehicle struck pedestrians in Barahathwa Municipality–10, Sitapur on Friday evening. Police said the accident occurred at around 7 pm when a Scorpio (DL 9 CZ 0777) travelling from Barahathwa toward Sitapur hit a group of people, including wedding guests. The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Narayan Jarga Magar of Barahathwa–9. According to the District Police Office, Sarlahi, those injured include Kamala Patel (70) of Pipariya Dostiya in Rautahat, Bandhana Patel (45) of Gadhimai Municipality–11, Rupesh Mandal (18), Pratima Kumari Patel (15), Dilip Rai (19), Chandan Paswan (23), Dipika Jaiswal (12), Ramji Rai (20), Mukesh Raut (23) and Ramnarayan Thakur (55). The injured are receiving treatment at various hospitals in Barahathwa. According to preliminary police investigation, the driver was attempting to flee after hitting a pedestrian when locals tried to stop the vehicle, during which more people were struck. Police have arrested the driver, 40-year-old Naresh Thakur of Barahathwa–12, Laukath, and further investigation is underway.
