Western disturbance to bring rain, snowfall in several provinces today

KATHMANDU, MARCH 17 A western low-pressure system currently influencing Nepal's weather is expected to bring light rain, snowfall and thunderstorms in several mountainous areas of the country today, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. The department said generally cloudy conditions are likely over the hilly and mountainous regions of Karnali Province and Sudurpaschim Province, as well as the mountainous regions of other provinces. Meanwhile, partly cloudy weather is expected across the remaining hilly and Terai regions. There is a possibility of light rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at a few places in the mountainous areas of Koshi Province, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province. Similar conditions may also occur at one or two places in the mountainous regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. The department also said isolated light rain with thunder and lightning is possible at one or two locations in the hilly regions of Koshi and Gandaki provinces during the day. During the night, generally cloudy conditions are expected over the mountainous regions of Gandaki and Karnali provinces. The hilly and Terai regions of Gandaki Province, Lumbini Province, Karnali Province and Sudurpaschim Province are likely to experience partly cloudy weather, while most other parts of the country will remain mainly fair. There is also a chance of light rain or snowfall with thunder and lightning at one or two places in the mountainous areas of Gandaki and Karnali provinces tonight. In the Kathmandu Valley, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy during the day, with the maximum temperature ranging between 24°C and 26°C. At night, the valley will experience mainly fair weather, with minimum temperatures expected to range between 10°C and 12°C.
