KATHMANDU, MARCH 23 World Meteorological Day 2026 is being observed across the globe on Sunday, marking the 76th anniversary of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). This year's theme, 'Observing Today, Protecting Tomorrow,' highlights the importance of weather, climate and water monitoring in safeguarding lives and building resilience. In Nepal, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) is organising an interaction programme to raise awareness on weather forecasting, its importance and measures for climate change risk reduction. The WMO stated that global observation and prediction systems form the backbone of early warning mechanisms, helping save millions of lives. The day recognises the contribution of meteorological and hydrological services in ensuring public safety and wellbeing.
