Three arrested for involvement in illegal cryptocurrency transactions

Police seize Rs 1.53 million cash; probe reveals transactions worth over Rs 1.36 billion

KATHMANDU, MARCH 23 Police have arrested three individuals on charges of involvement in illegal cryptocurrency transactions, including hundi operations, in the Kathmandu Valley. The arrested have been identified as Pravesh Ali (41), originally from West Bengal, India and residing in Ekantakuna, Lalitpur; Naresh Reule (31) of Nepalgunj, currently residing in Bauddha-Jorpati, Kathmandu; and Dipti Pokharel (30) of Sarlahi, residing in Nakhu, Lalitpur. According to Nepal Police, a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, apprehended Reule from Samakhushi, Kathmandu, based on a tip-off regarding illegal financial activities. During interrogation, Reule revealed his involvement in buying and selling USDT on behalf of Pokharel and Ali. Following this, police arrested Pokharel from Redonpul, Samakhushi, along with Rs 1.53 million in cash, and Ali from Ekantakuna, Lalitpur. Preliminary investigation shows that Ali had conducted transactions worth over Rs 1.36 billion using a Binance ID through his mobile phone. All three have been handed over to the District Police Range, Kathmandu, for further investigation and necessary legal action, police said.
