Westerly system to bring rain, thunder across hills and mountains

KATHMANDU, MARCH 24 A combination of westerly and local wind systems is influencing weather conditions across Nepal, bringing chances of rain and thunderstorms in several regions, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM). In its 24-hour forecast issued Tuesday morning, the DHM said partly to generally cloudy conditions are expected over the hilly and Himalayan regions, including Koshi Province, while the Terai is likely to remain mostly fair. There is a likelihood of moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at a few places in the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi and Gandaki provinces. Similar conditions are expected at a few locations in other hill and mountain regions, with isolated rainfall also possible in the Terai of Koshi Province. Tonight, the Himalayan region is forecast to remain generally cloudy, with partly cloudy skies over the hills and mostly fair weather in the Terai. Light rain or snowfall with thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in Koshi, Gandaki and Karnali provinces, and at isolated locations elsewhere. In the Kathmandu Valley, light rain with thunderstorms is expected during the day, with temperatures ranging between 20°C and 22°C and a 30 percent chance of precipitation. Nighttime conditions will be partly cloudy, with minimum temperatures forecast between 10°C and 12°C.
